Frequently Asked Questions
About the therapies
Do I have to believe in this for it to work?
No. Sceptics get results. People who think the whole thing is nonsense lie on the table and find themselves involuntarily relaxed. The nervous system doesn't care what you believe.
What's the difference between acupressure and reiki?
Acupressure is mechanical. Sustained pressure is applied to specific anatomical points — the same points used in acupuncture, but without needles. Reiki is energy work — light touch or near-touch. Both are quiet, fully clothed, and work with the nervous system. You can try each on its own (Fusion Acupressure or Reiki Harmony) or combine both in the AcuReiki Reset — a 90-minute signature session.
Does acupressure use needles?
No. Acupressure uses finger and thumb pressure only — no needles, no instruments.
What You May Experience
Everyone responds to Acupressure and Reiki in their own way. Most people experience a sense of calm, relaxation and wellbeing during or after a session.
Some clients may feel particularly relaxed or a little tired afterwards, which is usually a natural response to taking time out, slowing down and allowing the body and mind to rest.
Occasionally, clients may also notice emotions or feelings coming to the surface during or after a session. This can simply be part of becoming more relaxed and aware of how you are feeling.
These responses are generally temporary, and everyone's experience is different. I encourage you to listen to your body, take some time to rest and stay hydrated following your session.
Your comfort and wellbeing are always my priority.
Can this replace my doctor or other medical treatment?
No — and Steve will never suggest it can. These therapies work alongside conventional medicine, not instead of it.
Is there anything these therapies definitely can't help with?
Yes. Structural injuries, infections, organ disease, diagnosed mental illness as a primary treatment. Acupressure can help manage pain around a structural problem — it can't fix the structure.
What happens in a session
What do I wear?
You stay fully clothed throughout. Wear something comfortable and loose. Nothing is removed. Shoes come off.
How many sessions will I need?
You'll have a clear sense after one or two. If nothing is happening after four sessions, it's probably not the right therapy for you — and Steve will tell you that rather than keep booking you in.
Is it painful?
Acupressure involves sustained pressure — some points are more sensitive than others. It shouldn't be sharp or unpleasant. Reiki involves no pressure at all.
Are there any side effects?
The most common effect is feeling significantly calmer and sometimes a little spaced-out for a few hours. Drive carefully.
Can I combine acupressure and reiki?
Yes — that's the AcuReiki Reset. A 90-minute signature session that blends both into one seamless treatment.
